ERROR: 'Your security has been jeopardized'

Summary

How to resolve the error 'Your security has been jeopardized' in Sage Pastel Payroll.

Cause

This error occurs when you attempt to open a specific company and the Short name has changed. The two main reasons for this are:

  1. When you manually extract a backup, you haven't removed the P and/or date in brackets at the end of the company name.
Example: Your company short name is called ADMIN, but when extracted as a company called ADMINP(20250203_1348_29022020_20261) which is the backup name. You’ll have to rename the folder in C:\Payroll and re-add the company.
  2. You’ve restored/extracted a backup called ADMINB into ADMIN, now the information in ADMIN has the information of ADMINB in it and now the Short names are different.  You’ll have to manually extract a backup to correct this.

Resolution

You rename the company short name outside of Payroll

  1. Go to where you've saved your company, for example C:\Payroll.
  2. Right click the folder and select Rename.
  3. Type in the correct short name and ensure that the 'P' and dates in brackets have been removed.
  4. Press enter on your keyboard.
  5. Open payroll and Add back the company that you have now renamed to the correct name.

You restored the incorrect company

You’ll need to manually restore a backup to correct this:
