Description
Data files can become corrupt due to unforeseen events, resulting in errors such as Status 98. The rebuild function recreates indexed files to restore system functionality.
This method uses the Support Help utility on your Company Listing screen.
Resolution
Before you rebuild your files
- Ensure all users have exited the payroll application before starting.
- We recommend backing up your data before performing a rebuild.
Access the Support Help utility
- Open your payroll application.
- From the Company Listing screen, select Sup Help.

- Review the utility options under the VUTIL Options section.

- Select the option of which files you need to rebuild:
- Rebuild All Data Files - rebuilds all files for all companies in the system folder
- Rebuild Specific File - rebuilds a specific file mentioned in your error message
- Rebuild Specific Company - rebuilds all files for a specific company
- Select -R (Recommend) - only use the other options if instructed.
- Click Rebuild, then select Yes to confirm all users logged out the system.
- Select Yes to replace the original files with the new files.

The process opens a Command Prompt window and runs through files to rebuild.
Once the process completes, the message "Vutil Rebuild Successful" appears once the process completes.
- Access the payroll company and continue processing.
