About stores

Each inventory item lives in at least one store. When you enable Multi-Store in a company, Sage 50cloud Pastel creates a default store 001 for you.

You can't delete a store that contains inventory items. To retire a store instead, block it.

Create a store

1. Go to Edit > Inventory > Stores. 

   Alternative: use the System Navigator.

2. Fill in the store fields.

3. Save the record.

Code

• A unique code for the store
• Up to three characters
• You can't change the code after you save the record

Description

Enter a clear description for the store. Users see this description when they choose a store.

Blocked

Select this checkbox to block users from further transactions to the store. Clear the checkbox to unblock it.

Use this to retire a store you can't delete because it still holds items.

Default inventory group

Every inventory item needs an inventory group. The group holds the ledger accounts Sage 50cloud Pastel uses for transactions.

Choose a default inventory group for new items in this store. Sage 50cloud Pastel applies this default to each new item you link to the store, but you can change any item's group later.

If the same item lives in more than one store, each copy has its own inventory group. You can then analyse sales and activity by store, either in the general ledger or via inventory reports.

Contact information fields

Enter contact details for the store if you want to. These fields are optional.

Block a store

Blocking is often the safest way to retire a store, because you can't always delete one.

To delete a store, you first need to:

• Remove every item from the store
• Confirm none of those items has a quantity on hand

If either check fails, block the store instead:

1. Open the store record.
2. Select the Blocked checkbox.
3. Save the record.

Users can no longer post transactions to this store. To unblock the store, clear the checkbox and save.
