How to map a network drive to a drive letter
Description

You installed the payroll application on a server. The user will access the system from their workstations over the network, where you share the system.

Each user needs to network map drive to access the system and features to work.

Cause

When you do not map the the system location to a drive letter, certain features won’t work as expected for example Excel reports and data backups.

Resolution

1. Share the payroll folder on the network

  1. Access the payroll server.
  2. Right-click on the payroll folder and select Properties.
  3. Click the Sharing tab.
  4. Choose the people in your network to share the drive with.
  5. Set the Permission Level to Read/Write.
  6. Click Add.
  7. Click the Security tab.
  8. Change the Authenticated User access to Full Control.
  9. Click Apply.

 NOTE: Click Edit to add the user name our group they belong to allocate the right permissions, if needed. 

 

2. Add the mapped drive on the workstation.

  1. Access the workstation.
  2. Click in the Search bar on your desktop Taskbar and type in This PC and press <enter>.

  1. The "This PC" application appears.
  2. Select Map network drive.

  1. Select a letter you want for the drive:

  1. Copy the shared network address into the folder box (or browse to it over the network):

  1. Click Finish to save the new mapping.
  2. The new mapped drive now appears under Network on File Explorer.
  3. Set the new shared drive as a trusted site.
  4. Create a new shortcut to the payroll application on the server.
