How to rebuild files using Support Help utilities
Description

Data files can become corrupt due to unforeseen events, resulting in errors such as Status 98. The rebuild function recreates indexed files to restore system functionality.

This method uses the Support Help utility on your Company Listing screen.

Before you rebuild your files

  • Ensure all users have exited the payroll application before starting. Resetting users will close all active sessions.
  • Always back up your data before performing a rebuild (if possible).

 CAUTION: If you receive a Status 98 or File error 98 error on VPFILE.PAY when launching the application, contact Sage Customer Support for assistance. 


Access the Support Help utility 

  1. Open your payroll application.
  2. Launch your payroll subscription.
  3. From the Company Listing screen, select Help.
  4. Choose Support Help.
  5. Review the utility options under the VUTIL Options section.

  1. Select the option of which files you need to rebuild:
    • Rebuild All Data Files - rebuilds all files for all companies in the system folder
    • Rebuild Specific File - rebuilds a specific file mentioned in your error message
    • Rebuild Specific Company - rebuilds all files for a specific company
  2. Select -R (Recommend) - only use the other options if instructed.
  3. Click Rebuild, then select Yes to confirm all users logged out the system.
  4. Select Yes to replace original files with the new files.
  5. The process completes when the message below appears:
