ERROR: An error occurred while executing the command definition

How to solve the error "An error occurred while executing the command definition. See the inner exception for details" on Sage VIP Classic and Sage VIP Premier.

The following error displays when you’re opening the payroll system:

 EXAMPLE:  

The system is unable to access the Employment Verification Services (EVS) database due to technical issues.

 

Review the installation version of the operating system and payroll software.

1. As from Release 6.1a, there are two installation files to select:
   • 32-bit installation file
   • 64-bit installation file
2. Review the version of your operating system.

   • A 64-bit operating system can run either 32-bit or 64-bit software system
   • A 32-bit operating system can only run a 32-bit software system

Reinstall Sage Connected Services and Sage VIP Runtime.

1. Go to Control Panel, then select Program and Features
2. Locate and uninstall the following applications:
   • Sage Connected Services
   • Sage VIP Runtime 
3. Access the payroll application to re-install the software
4. Restart your computer to apply all changes

Review the EVS registry key.

1. Access Registry Editor (Regedit)
2. Locate the registry key Computer\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\EVS
3. Review the DataPath value
   • Ensure the location is the same as where the system is installed
   • Correct the DataPath if it’s incorrect
