Choosing between the 32-bit or 64-bit installation file to download

We explain which installation files to download for Sage VIP Classic and Sage VIP Premier from the Sage Portal.

The terms 32-bit and 64-bit refer to how a computer’s processor handles information. A 64-bit operating system can process more memory and perform calculations faster than a 32-bit system.

You can install a 32-bit installation file on both 32-bit and 64-bit operating systems. However, you can't install a 64-bit installation file on a 32-bit operating system.

From Release 6.1a, two installation files are available:

• 32-bit installation file
• 64-bit installation file

 

 

Review the current operating system

1. Access File Explorer on your computer.
2. Locate This PC.
3. Right-click on This PC and select Properties.
4. Under the 'Device specification' section: 
   • System Type: indicates if you have a 64-bit or 32-bit operating system
5. In the 'Windows specification' section:
   • Edition: displays the installed version of Windows on your computer

Select the correct download installation file

1. Go to the Sage Portal website.
2. Log in with your credentials.
3. On the Menu, select Software Downloads.
4. Choose the payroll system.
5. Choose the release version.
6. Scroll down to the Downloads section.
7. Select the installation file to download:

Download the 32-bit installation file if:

• You have a stand-alone computer with a 32-bit operating system.
• You have a peer-to-peer network where all computers have a 32-bit operating system.
• You have a peer-to-peer network where any computer has a 32-bit operating system.
• You have a local area network where the server or any workstation has a 32-bit operating system.

Download the 64-bit installation file if:

• You have a stand-alone computer with a 64-bit operating system.
• You have a peer-to-peer network where all computers have a 64-bit operating system.
• You have a local area network where the server and all workstations have a 64-bit operating system.
