ERROR: 'Unhandled exception has occurred' when creating a shortcut

The error appears when you run CreateShortcut.exe from the payroll system folder to create a payroll icon. 

Possible causes for the error:

• Missing .NET components
• Insufficient permissions

Activate Microsoft .NET Framework

1. Open Control Panel.
2. Select Programs and Features.
3. Click Turn Windows features on or off.
4. Tick all boxes for .NET Framework 3.5 and .NET Framework 4.8.
5. Click OK.
6. Restart your computer.

Check folder permissions

1.  Open File Explorer.
2. Locate the location folder of your payroll application. 
3. Right-click the payroll system folder on the server and select Properties.
4. Select Security tab then select Edit.
5. Select all Groups or User Names and set Full Control to Allow.
6. Click Apply, then OK.

Check user profile permissions

1. Right-click the payroll system folder in Windows Explorer and select Properties.
2. Select Security tab then Edit then Add.
3. In Object Name, type Network Service.
4. Click Check Names, then OK.
5. Select NETWORK SERVICE and set Full Control to Allow.
6. Click Apply, then OK.

Run CreateShortcut.exe as administrator

1. Open File Explorer.
2. Locate the location folder of your payroll application. 
3. Locate CreateShortcut.exe in the payroll folder.
4. Right-click on the application and select Run as Administrator.
5. The location defaults to the current system folder.
6. Click Browse to select another folder (if needed).
7. Enter a name for the shortcut.
8. Click Create to generate the shortcut on your desktop.
