Error: "Memory access violation"

Summary

Possible solutions for "Memory access violation" errors on Sage VIP Classic and Sage VIP Premier.

Cause

  • Printing: The process to check for printers can have an impact on the memory used in the printing process
  • Opening: Not enough memory resources is allocated to open all the files

Resolution

Recreate the payroll shortcut

  • Right click on the payroll icon and go to Properties
  • Select 'Open file location'
  • Locate the application 'CreateShortcut.exe'
  • Change the new shortcut name (not the same as current shortcut)
  • Click 'Create'

Review the conent of the CBLCONFI file

  • Right click on the payroll icon and go to Properties
  • Seelct 'Open file location'
  • Locate the file CBLCONFI
  • The CBLCONFI file does not have an extension - the file in the folder type must be "file"
  • Open the CBLCONFI with Notepad and check the following:
    • If you are printing, the checking for printers can have an impact on the memory used in the printing process. CHECK_USING ON This ensures that the system checks only for the memory needed to execute the current action
    • The number of Max files 256 can also cause trouble if it is too little. You can increase the 256 to either 1024 or 2048 (recommended)

Remove unused or old printers from you Control Panel

  • Select Start > Control Panel > Devices and Printers
  • Review and identify old and unused printers not connected
  • Right-click on the Printer in question and choose the option to Remove Device

Check for Windows Updates available

  • You can also manually check for updates by selecting Start > Control Panel > System and Security > Windows Update
  • If any updates are found, click Install updates
  • Restart the computer

 NOTE: Windows 10 automatically downloads and installs updates, but they may not be available on all devices at the same time. In Windows 11, you can choose when and how to get updates
