Description

Sage 300 People lets you create custom calculations for payroll needs that standard calculations do not cover. These calculations link to payroll definitions and can return numbers, dates, or logical values based on how you set them up.

Once linked to payroll definitions, custom calculations affect payroll results for employees linked to the applicable company rule. Perform a recalculation after linking a new or updated calculation for the changes to apply.

Create a custom calculation
  1. On the navigation pane, expand Utilities.
  2. Double‑click Calculation management.
  3. Double‑click Custom calculations.
  4. Select New.
  5. Complete the calculation fields.
  6. Select Save.

 


Calculation field guidance

  • Code
    Enter a unique calculation code
  • Description
    Enter a clear calculation description
  • Company
    Select a company or leave blank to create a general calculation
  • Calculation group
    Assign the calculation to an appropriate group
    Create a new group if required
  • Return type
    Select the calculation result type
    Options include:
    • Integer
    • Decimal
    • Date
    • Boolean
  • Active version
    Displays the current active calculation version

Build the calculation expression

This example calculates seven percent of the period salary.

  1. Select New on the calculation definition.
  2. Select New to open the expression builder.
  3. On the Variables tab, locate Employee > Employee rule > Period salary.
  4. Enter the expression: Period salary × 0.07.
  5. Select Verify.
  6. Confirm the status shows Verified.
  7. Select OK.

When prompted, select Yes to set the definition as the active version.


Save the calculation

  1. Select Save on the custom calculation screen.

Link the calculation to a payroll definition

  1. Open the applicable payroll definition.
  2. Select the newly created calculation.
  3. Select Save.

Recalculate payroll results

Recalculate payroll values for the changes to take effect.

  1. Expand Company management.
  2. Double‑click the relevant Company rule.
  3. Select Re calc all.

This action applies the calculation update to all employees linked to the company rule.
