Summary
How to resolve the validation error Income for previous tax year, no assessment year given on Sage200c VIP, Sage Classic, Sage Premier
Description
You are generating the IRP5 files for either the Annual or Interim SARS Submission and instead of creating the IRP5 files the system informs you there is mandatory information outstanding. A report will then print with a list of errors and this error is in the report.
Resolution
- The error message indicates that there is income on a record, which was terminated in the previous tax year. You will need to determine if the income should be reported for a previous tax year, or current tax year
- If the income should be reported for a previous tax year, enter the Assessment Year on the Employee Information Statutory tab (routing STA) - the assessment year cannot be the same as the current tax year, will result in an import file error on e@syFile. The record should be on Temporary Tax status (25%), since there are no days worked to annualise income
- If the income should be reported for the current assessment year, you are required to load a record for the current tax year (e.g. variable income) and it should be taxed accordingly at the current year’s tax tables. We do not recommend to reactivate a record or change the termination date, as you will not be able to change the termination date to a date to any date prior to the tax year start date (IRP5 will not allow this)
