Summary

Learn how to fix the 'TStTransRecord: Error posting Inventory transaction.. This transaction would create negative stock quantities which is not allowed’ Inventory Adjustment error in Sage 200 Evolution.

Description

The following type of error message may be observed when trying to adjust an Inventory Item’s quantities

on either the Inventory | Transactions

  • Adjustment,
  • Inventory Journal Batch, or
  • Inventory Count screen

Resolution

To explain further, consider the following scenario to understand how this error can be recreated:

1. First note that on the Inventory | Maintenance | Inventory Defaults | Inventory tab, the option to allow negative quantities has not been selected.

2. Secondly, note that the relevant stock item has a Work in Progress (WIP) quantity as can be seen in the Inventory Enquiries screen. Also note below that in this case the Quantity Available = 0.

3. Therefore, if the newly entered quantity on the Adjustment, Inventory Journal Batch or Inventory Count screen is less than the current WIP Quantity for the same item, the above error can be expected as Evolution can’t allow the transactions from being processed as it simply cannot remove already dedicated WIP quantities on either Job Cards or Manufacturing processes.
