How do I increase the max files in the CBLCONFI configuration file?
Description
Cause

Due to specific environmental reasons, the system is unable to open all required files as allowed by the configuraton file (CBLCONFI). The CBLCONFI files contains the maximum number of files the system can open (uses the computer’s memory), and this means it cannot read the file, or the memory allocated is too small to complete all the processes

Resolution
  • Validate the Shortcut Properties
    • All shortcuts on all workstations, including the server should be checked to contain the correct command line: .../wrun32.exe –s –c cblconfi VIPSAL.ACU
    • Ensure there are no unnecessary spaces in the shortcut, and that the Target and Start in locations point to the same VIP location of the system
    • To make sure they are correct we recommend that you delete all shortcuts and use the Create Shorcut wizard to recreate them for all users on all workstations.
  • Validate the details of the CBLCONFI file
    • Access File Explorer and navigate to the system folder
    • Search for the CBLCONFI file
    • The CBLCONFI file must be in the system folder: If the file is not found n the system folder, copy a file from a backup/copy system, or if unavailable you can request an updated file from the Customer Support team
    • Check the details of the CBLCONFI file : The file type of the CBLCONFI file must be “FILE” (you can view the details of the file by right-clicking on the file and selecting to view the Properties)
    • The CBLCONFI file should not be associated to any other program or application. In some  cases, the file type is .DAT, and associated with another program, which is the cause of the problem
    • Should the file be associated to another program and has an extension (e.g. CBLCONFI.DAT), the file can be renamed in Command Prompt by typing in the following command when you are in the system folder:
    • Open the CBLCONFI file in Notepad, to confirm that the file contains the necessary information. Below is an example of a CBLCONFI file containing the required information used by the application:
    • You can increase the MAX FILES to increase the memory for number of files to be opened by a single process. The minimum currently is 512, and can be increased to either 1024, or 2048 (the maximum) should the issue persist. T

NOTE: If you have multiple users on a RDP accessing VIP, please ensure the physical RAM is sufficient for the number of users accessing the RDP, since memory is reserved per user (e.g. if you server has 8GB RAM), no more than 3 users will be able to access the • Restart the computer Restart the computer to apply any changes made to the CBLCONFI file and test the process again.
