How to retrieve and view a backup
Description

You can retrieve historic payroll backups to view data as it was at the time of backup. 

Cause
Resolution

Retrieve the backup:

  1. Log into Payroll Professional.
  2. Go to your Active Payroll Subscription screen.
  3. Locate the applicable Site Code.
  4. Select the three dots next to the Launch button (under Actions).

  1. Choose Retrieve Backup.

  1. Select your company from the drop-down list.
  2. Choose the backup from the list based on type, date, and time.
  3. Click Retrieve.

NOTE: Retrieving a backup doesn’t affect your live data. You can only retrieve one backup at a time. 

Use the retrieved backup:

  1. Once the system retrieves the backup, a new option is available next to the Launch button.
  2. The button reflects the retrieved company number and the word Backup.

  1. When you hover your cursor over the button, you’ll see four options:
    • Launch Backup: Open the backup in a separate system to view the data
    • Return Backup to the archive and discard all changes made: Close the backup without affecting the live system or backup file
    • Replace old Backup in the archive and apply all changes made: Replace the original backup with any changes made (not recommended)
    • Replace Backup in your live data with this backup's data: Overwrite your live data with the backup data (use with caution)

NOTE: You can't restore a backup into live data if it is from a previous tax year. Contact Sage Customer support if your need to replace assistance.

  1. Select one of the options to action, based on what you need to do.
